Prosurv Releases Pocket Quads.NET™

November 8, 2006

Clark, WY

Prosurv LLC is proud to announce a truly revolutionary product for the Mobile Topographic Mapping industry! First came USGS topographic maps on paper. Next came digital topographic maps available for use on the PC. Now, with Pocket Quads™ US Regional and State Editions, users have digital topographic maps with GPS positioning literally available at their fingertips. What makes Pocket Quads US Regional and State Editions so revolutionary is that, for the first time ever, all of the topographic maps for an entire Region or State are pre-loaded on 4GB SD Cards, ready for immediate use in the field. No PC is required. No downloading of maps from a PC or web site is needed...ever. Just insert the SD Card, install the Pocket Quads software (when prompted), and GO.

The correct map for a location is loaded automatically, based on the current GPS position. Pocket Quads US Regional Editions are available as Western, Central, or Eastern United States Editions. Each Regional Edition contains all of the 1:100,000 and 1:250,000 scale topographic maps for an entire Region, all on ONE 4GB SD Card. The Western US Regional Edition contains over 800 topographic maps covering 10 Western States all on a single 4GB SD Card. The Central Regional Edition covers 11 Central States, and the Eastern Regional Edition covers over 25 Eastern States.

With Pocket Quads Western US Regional Edition™, users can drive from Southern Arizona to Northern Montana, viewing their GPS position on the automatically changing topographic maps on the screen of their Windows Mobile device, without ever downloading a single map or even touching the screen.

With Pocket Quads US State Editions, in addition to the 100 and 250 thousand scale maps, users also get all of the 1:24,000 Scale USGS Topographic Maps for an entire State, on one or more 4GB SD Cards (depending on the size of the State). For example, the Pocket Quads Michigan Edition comes with two 4GB SD Cards, containing over 1300 topographic maps.

Each Regional and State Edition comes with the powerful, easy-to-use Pocket Quads software. Just hit ‘Start GPS’ and Pocket Quads automatically connects to your GPS Receiver. Pocket Quads list of features is extraordinary, and includes: Auto-map loading, based on your GPS position; Auto tracking of your location as you walk or drive; Auto GPS signal acquisition (com port & baud rate); Never worry about going “beyond the map”, since all of the maps for the entire State or Region are already on your SD Card; Switch between different scale maps (24,000 / 100,000 / 250,000) on the fly (without changing cards); Zoom in/out in real time; Record and Playback GPS routes (by time or distance); Enter & create waypoints by tapping the screen; Import/Export data; Navigate to points; Search the included USGS State databases by Feature Name and much more.

Not since the USGS introduced paper topographic maps to the public has there been a product this revolutionary in the industry. No PC’s. No CD’s. No downloads. Finally, one product does it all by giving you real-time GPS positioning on topographic maps on your mobile device in one complete package.

Pocket Quads Regional and State Editions are designed for use with the latest Windows Mobile Devices, including Windows Mobile 5 Pocket PC’s and the ultra-ruggedized Archer by Juniper Systems. Pocket Quads US Regional and State Editions also support Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile 2003SE (Second Edition) Devices. The SD Card automatically detects the operating system and installs the correct version of Pocket Quads.

Prosurv LLC is proud to announce the release of Prosurv Imaging™ Version 3.1.  Create .tfw GeoReference files for Supplemental Images by referencing a Primary Image.  Automatically computes the Rotation, X Scale, Y Scale, and Upper Left Corner coordinates for the .tfw World file, simply by clicking on similar features of two different images.

Prosurv Imaging is PC software for viewing, printing, and manipulating GeoReferenced topo maps and any images in .tif or .jpg formats.  Prosurv Imaging is also the companion software of Prosurv Pocket Quads.NET and is used to process maps for use with Pocket Quads.NET.  Prosurv Imaging version 3.1 contains powerful new features that allow the user to view two separate images at the same time.  The first, or Primary Image is a normal GeoReferenced image, such as a Topo map.  The second, or Supplemental Image can be any non GeoReferenced image, such as a scanned document, photo, or other digital map or image.  The software then allows the user to place two or three "tacks" on each image that represent the same locations, such as an intersection of two roads, section corners, buildings, or other similar objects.  After placing the tacks, Prosurv Imaging computes x and y scales and the upper left corner coordinate for the second map.  The user can then save the GeoReference information as a new .tfw (World) file, simply by pressing Ctrl-W or by selecting Save World File from the menu.

Version 3.1 allows the user to Scan Images directly into Prosurv Imaging.  The image can then be Rotated, Clipped, and Saved.  Typically, a scanned document will need to be rotated, in order to match the Primary Image and create a GeoReference file.  This Rotation is easily performed by defining a reference line in the Primary and Supplemental Images.  Once the second image is GeoReferenced, it can be opened by Prosurv Imaging as the Primary Image, allowing the user to perform any function within Prosurv Imaging, such as processing the map for use with Pocket Quads.NET.  Since the image is now fully GeoReferenced, it can also be used with other software requiring a GeoReferenced image.

Other new functionality in Prosurv Imaging include new Pan and Zoom Area buttons, and the ability to view the two images side by side either Split Horizontally or Split Vertically.  The new version also allows the user to store up to 10 different views of each image.  Each view stores the current zoom and scroll location.  This allows the user to instantly navigate between different parts of the map, and at different zooms.  It is extremely useful when placing the tacks on the maps in order to generate the GeoReference data for the second image.

Prosurv Imaging is available with Pocket Quads.NET for only $199, but may be purchased separately for just $119.  A special user's guide has been created for Version 3.1, and can be downloaded at the Prosurv web site.

Clark, WY

Prosurv LLC announces the release of Pocket Quads.NET™ version 1.5 with Feature Search capabilities.  This new version allows users to search for State-wide Features using USGS GNIS (Geographic Names Information Systems) databases.  State-wide GNIS databases for use with Pocket Quads.NET will be available for download from the www.prosurv.com web site.  Typically, these databases contain tens of thousands of records and two dozen or more feature types, such as Lake, Stream, Summit, Cemetary, Hospital and more.

Users can enter a Feature Name to search for, such as Old Faithful.  Pocket Quads.NET will display all matching records.  The user can select which record to load.  Then, by tapping the Load button, the Topo map containing the feature is loaded automatically, and the feature is marked and displayed in the center of the screen.  The user can select to load either the 1:24,000, 1:100,000, or 1:250,000 scale map containing the feature.  The map is displayed at the current zoom level, such as 75% or 100%.

In addition to searching by Feature Name, Radial searches may be performed.  A Designation (Feature Type) is selected from the drop-down list, such as Summit.  The user enters a search radius in Miles, Meters, KM, or Feet.  The database is searched for all features of the given type that are within the given radius.  Records that meet the criteria are displayed, and the user can select which record to use.  Again, the user can tap the load button to visually see the location of the feature that was located.  The appropriate Topo map is automatically loaded and the feature is centered on the screen.  Radial searches can be set to "closest" so that the closest matched record is displayed first.  For the center of the search, the user can either tap the screen, use the current GPS position, or specify a point # to use.

Also, new features can be added to the database using the Import New Features routine.  This allows users to add new features to the database using a simple text file, formatted as Feature Name, Feature Type, Latitude, Longitude.  Prosurv has added several new Designations (Feature Types) to the database, such as NGS_Horizontal and NGS_Vertical, allowing users to import NGS Datasheet monumentation.  Then, radial searches can be performed such as "Find the closest Horizontal NGS monument to my current GPS location".  The monument is found and displayed on the Topo map.

Prosurv LLC is in the process of adding Wyoming NGS Datasheets (monumentation) to the Wyoming GNIS Database for use with Pocket Quads.NET.  Other State databases with NGS monuments will be available by request.

The Utilities routine in Pocket Quads.NET now contains an easy way to set your default Quad Path, such as \CF Card\Quads\, without having to change it in the Defaults.txt file.

A 30 day trial of Pocket Quads.NET™ is available at www.prosurv.com. Or call toll-free 888-647-9500.

Prosurv LLC announces the release of the all new Pocket Quads.NET software for the Pocket PC.  Completely re-written using the Microsoft .NET platform, Pocket Quads.NET supports devices running the .NET Compact Framework, including Windows Mobile 2003SE (Second Edition) devices and .NET Handheld devices.

Unique in the industry, Pocket Quads.NET is the only software that incorporates real-time GPS positioning on full-size Topo Quad maps and works with all 3 major map scales, including 1:24,000, 1:100,000, and 1:250,000 scale maps.  Pocket Quads.NET lets surveyors pre-load dozens, hundreds, or even 1000 full size quad sheets on a Pocket PC or memory card, so they're never without the one they need.  Instead of having to pre-load an area of a map needed for a job site, Pocket Quads.NET comes with Prosurv Imaging software for the PC that can batch process dozens of entire Topo maps at one time.  The surveyor only needs to process the topo maps once.

With Prosurv Pocket Quads.NET, users can have access to all the Topo Quad maps for an entire State, at their fingertips on a Pocket PC.  A 1GB Compact Flash card can easily store over 300 full-size Quad maps.  With 8GB CF Cards now available, it's possible to have an entire State's set of topo maps on one card, when processed with Prosurv Imaging.

With Pocket Quads.NET, users simply turn on the GPS receiver and the correct Quad is loaded automatically.  The software auto-centers and auto-tracks as the surveyor walks or drives, changing Quads based on the GPS position.  If a 1:24,000 (7.5' USGS) Quad for the current position isn't found, Pocket Quads.NET will automatically load the 1:100,000 or 1:250,000 scale maps instead.

Pocket Quads.NET allows users to switch on-the-fly between the 3 different scale maps.  The software allows the selection of a Job zone that is different than the image zone.  For example, the Job Zone can be set as Wyoming West Central (NAD83) while working with an image that's (automatically) defined as UTM 12 (based on the georeference file).  The collected coordinates will then be in Wyoming West Central SPC.  GPS data, including Job zone coordinates, image zone coordinates and lat/long are displayed in either a small-text view or Big View (large text).  A window shows a view of acquired satellites.  Surveyors can record points by time or distance intervals with a descriptor and attributes that automatically record the date and time.  A code list can be uploaded to the software for easy selection of codes.

Users can tap the screen to create a point or annotation.  The point is stored in the Job file and displayed on the topo image.  The point can be staked out by tapping or entering the point name or number.  Stakeout (Navigation) displays the Azimuth/Distance, or Bearing/Distance, or Go North and Go East amounts.  An arrow indicates the direction to go and is based either on North or on Movement (user selection).  Stakeout can be either To the point or From the point.  Users can stake to either the GPS position when the screen was tapped, or to the coordinates of the tapped position.

The software allows Importing a standard points file.  The points are plotted on the image automatically, and can also be used for stakeout.  Recorded data can be exported as an .asc text file, and contains over a dozen fields, including Lat/Long, Elevation, Northing, Easting, tapped Northing, tapped Easting and more.  The database itself is Microsoft Access compatible.

A 'Breadcrumb' trail is displayed as surveyors walk or drive, showing the traveled route.  GPS Points can be recorded by time or distance intervals.  In addition to writing text on the image (using annotations), the user can draw lines on the image as well.  Distances between points or between screen taps can be displayed just by tapping.  Point data can be viewed by tapping the point, or, view all of the points record by record.

Points can be entered directly by Northing & Easting, or by Latitude & Longitude, in DMS or decimal.  10 layers are available for determining what is plotted on the image.  A GPS data test function allows the user to simulate a GPS using a simple Latitude,Longitude text file.
